In this article, I’ll be sharing 11 fulfillment sites you can use to design custom printed tank tops, including print on demand vests. To make things easier, I’ve also included their list of integrations and other apparel products you can sell.

1. Printify

There are at least 20 different kinds of tank tops you can design on Printify. Though they might look all the same to you, there are some key differences to look into when comparing products.

This includes cutting (e.g. neck, armhole), price, size of printing area, product quality and fulfillment location!

As you might already know, Printify works with multiple fulfillments all over the world – hence, why they’re able to offer a greater variety compared to other sites. Prices are also cheaper so I recommend you joining if you’re a complete POD beginner.

There is a good mixture of women and men tank tops on the site, including all over printed ones. You can even design matching dog tank tops for your furry loved one!

Here’s a sample of Printify’s tank top I created using a design I downloaded from Creative Fabrica. It is a faded stonewash tank top so I went with a slightly groovy design.

You can add images to the front side and back side, but there will be an additional charge if you’re printing on both sides at the same time.

2. Printful

If you’re looking for a slightly more premium option and don’t mind paying the price, Printful is a great alternative. They also have a monthly subscription plan for you to save further on cost – Printful Membership is similar to Printify Premium.

There are fewer options for tank tops on Printful but you can read individual product reviews from real customers to decide better. This is a huge bonus and a reason why I would recommend you buying with Printful instead.

I also like their ready collection of clipart and quick designs that you can add to your product when designing. This helps non-designers by a great deal and Printful’s design studio is easier to use compared to Printify’s.

Here’s a sample of an all over print men’s tank top I created on Printful using their ready clipart. No images were uploaded! I simply chose a design and customized the colors.

3. Gelato

Another print on demand company you should look into that offers great services worldwide is Gelato. Gelato is quite similar to Printify as they work with multiple printing facilities across the world including Asia.

You can easily see details of how many countries a product can be fulfilled in when scrolling through their catalogue. Orders are typically segregated based on the destination address (country) as the closest fulfillment will process it.

Gelato is also not as cheap as Printify and prices are comparable to Printful. To save on cost as a seller, it’s best to subscribe to Gelato+ for further tiered discounts. This would only make sense if you’re selling to the countries where the savings are applicable.

4. Gooten

Three of the fulfillment websites I’ve shared above are great for any seller, whether you’re an experienced one or just a beginner with two sales a month (we all start somewhere!).

If you’re someone with an existing print on demand store and don’t want to be using a fulfillment like everyone else, then Gooten is one you should consider. The site only approves sign-ups from experienced sellers with a ready shop to sell on so if you don’t have any, you can apply or reapply later.

For tank tops, there are a lot more unisex options on Gooten than any other sites in this list. There is also a few kinds meant for women as the cutting is generally smaller. You can sell these tank tops alongside sportswear, umbrella or hiking shoes to increase your average order value.

The great thing about sourcing apparels from CustomCat is that most of their products are printed using the DIGISOFT method which is said to be more vibrant, true-to-color and longer lasting. This is easily identified by the green/pink icon on each product image (where applicable).

If there’s anything unique that you should be selling, it would be their Dri-power sleeveless muscle tee. As someone with an athletic partner (that also sweats a lot), the first thing I look for in sportswear is fast drying material or technology.

If I were to purchase, I would go for their women’s Sunday tank or racerback cropped tank. I like something that’s a little short but also flowy.

Most of their tank tops come in several colors and can be embroidered (aside from the usual screen printing, digital printing or transfer printing). While there are no extra costs to normal printing methods, there is a one-time digitization fee of $11 for embroidery – charged on your first order with a new design.

You can also tap into their additional branding services which includes adding private labels, woven labels and embroidered patches to orders.

If you’re looking for a print on demand company that’s based in the UK, you should check out Contrado. They have printing facilities in both the UK and the US, so it wouldn’t be a problem if that’s your primary target audience.

Although there’s limited selection of tank tops, you can still choose between designing a casual one or a sports one. Prices are also on the higher side compared to others, but there are options for customization including choosing fabric types, trim colors (black/white) and adding fabric labels on the inside.

Contrado typically ships orders in 1-2 days and US addresses can enjoy express shipping (as fast as 1-2 days post manufacturing).

8. Inkthreadable

Similar to Contrado, Inkthreadable is based in the UK and offers multiple currency options for payment (8 types). They mainly cater to apparel products including leggings, headwear, activewear and joggers.

Tank tops are named as vests on the site so be sure to key in the right term when browsing. They also have a range of sustainable print on demand products like organic clothing and vegan-certified apparels.

Although it’s not applicable to their tank tops (vests), Inkthreadable offers embroidery on most apparels and charges a £12 fee for digitization of new designs – slightly higher than Apliiq and Printful. You’ll definitely need to take this into account if you’re planning to sell other products.

If you don’t fancy the ones I’ve listed above and need something that is much cheaper, consider using HugePOD. Most of their products are printed and shipped from China so there are extra savings to be made.

HugePOD is also one of the more reasonable fulfillments for bulk purchases because buying more than 100 units of the same item can get you 20% off normal prices. There aren’t many options for tank tops on the site but if you just need a basic one, it should suffice.

The cotton muscle tank top for example, can be printed in 19 base colors for you to design easily. All you need to do is make the same design in a few different colors (light & dark) to match.

They have a better choice of custom printed tank tops compared to HugePOD and most of their apparels are all over printed. Prices are reasonable as it also includes standard shipping charges to the US – you’ll have to pay extra for other parts of the world.

Merchize’s tank tops are mostly made for men and comes with bigger armholes, but it is still possible to be worn by women. The cutting is usually larger so you’ll need to get a smaller size than what you usually would.

The only drawback is that you’ll need to wait slightly longer for your package to arrive if you’re shipping to the US or Europe. If it’s nothing urgent, this shouldn’t be a big problem.

Just like HugePOD, Yoycol also offers tiered bulk discounts of 5%-10% depending on units purchased (more than 10/50 pieces). However, the discounts aren’t available for some tank tops so be sure to check before you placing your orders.

4. Sign up for an account with any of the sites I’ve listed above
   • You’ll have to create an account with one of the sites I’ve mentioned above to start selling
   • Choose one supplier that resonates to you the most with the right products you’ve envisioned for your apparel business
5. Upload designs to products
   • Uploading designs to supplier’s products is super easy and you should be able to do this once an account is created
   • Position the design correctly when uploading as the actual product will look the same as what you see online
6. Set a suitable profit margin for each product
   • On most sites, you should be able to set a selling price once you’ve done uploading the design
   • A suitable margin should be 40%-50% depending on the platform you’re selling on and any fees you’ll incur on each sale
   • This excludes shipping charges to customers!
7. Sync them to your ecommerce store
   • You would need to integrate your ecommerce store e.g. Etsy or Shopify before you’re able to sell so do that first
   • Sync the ready product to your store to start selling them publicly
8. Start selling and repeat!
   • Repeat the process and you’ll get some sales with time!
